Motherwort Tincture

This is one of the tinctures I’m making today.  Motherwort is a favorite of mine and I use it everyday.

It has many uses, but these are reasons I use it:

  • cramps
  • heart palpitations
  • nervousness
  • insomnia
  • high blood pressure

It’s very bitter, and a tea is hard to swallow, so, I make a tincture.  Here is the easy recipe:

  • pint glass jar and lid
  • Motherwort herb, fresh or dried
  • Vodka

Make sure the jar and lid is very clean and dry.  Add the Motherwort to the jar.  When using fresh, lightly pack to half full, 1/4 full if using dry.  I’m using dry Motherwort today since the growing season is over.

Fill the jar with Vodka.  Lid, shake the jar, and label.  Don’t forget to date, because you have to leave the jar in a dark place for 3-6 weeks, the longer the better results.  Shake every day or when you think of it like I do.

When the time is up, strain through cheesecloth or coffee filter.  Bottle in a dark glass dropper bottle.  Leave the rest of the tincture in a clean jar in the dark.

Use 1 dropperful 1 to 3 times daily as needed in a cup of water.

If you are taking a high blood pressure medicine, talk to your doctor before taking Motherwort or any other herbs.
